Replacing the Tier 2 visa in late 2020, this scheme is now accessible to individuals with skills at RQF Level 3 or above, equating to A-level qualifications in the UK, across eligible occupations.
New regulations for the Skilled Worker visa include an increased minimum salary requirement of £38,700 per year, effective from 4 April 2024.
The UK Skilled Worker Visa allows international workers to work in the UK for licensed employers. Replacing the Tier 2 visa in 2020, it requires skills at RQF Level 3 or above. Initial validity is up to five years, depending on the Certificate of Sponsorship duration, and remains valid with the same employer. Visa extensions are possible, leading to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) eligibility after five years of continuous residence. Eligibility criteria include a job offer, employer sponsorship, meeting skill and salary levels, English proficiency, and financial support. Applications are submitted online and entail biometric data submission. Changing employers or jobs may require a new visa application. The visa pathway offers permanent residency opportunities and ultimately, UK citizenship eligibility.
